Berlinale:

Culinary Cinema

Food, pleasure and the environment – these are the topics that lie at the centre of the Culinary Cinema. In the words of Dieter Kosslick: “We show films that stimulate the appetite. Afterwards, we serve food prepared by top chefs who have been watching the films themselves. During dessert, there is a talk about the issues the film raised. In the late screenings, by contrast, we often show films that rather spoil one's appetite as they look closely at the often disastrous state of food production.”

The evenings begin at 19:30 in the cinema of the Martin-Gropius-Bau. Every year the Culinary Cinema shows about twelve current features, documentaries and short films that deal with the issues of food and/or the environment. The films are selected according to their thematic and cinematic qualities. Films screened in previous years included: También la lluvia (Even the Rain) by Icíar Bollaín, Toast by SJ Clarkson, Tuan Yuan by Wang Quan’an, Io Sono L’Amore (I am Love) by Luca Guadagnino with Tilda Swinton or documentaries such as Food, Inc. by Robert Kenner.
