Berlinale: Press Accreditation


Information on Press Accreditation

The Accreditation / EFM Registration period for the Berlin International Film Festival 2014 and the European Film Market starts in early November, 2013.


Please note that all information currently given on these pages refers to the Berlinale 2013 and is given subject to alteration in order to offer a general insight into accreditation procedures.

Press Accreditation is available to Berlinale reporters from all fields of the media (print, online, TV, radio, web TV, photography) as well as to PR agents of all films to be shown at the festival. Based on the requested credentials and documents, the Berlinale reserves the right to approve or deny accreditation.

Applications for the Press Accreditation can be made online.

During the online accreditation process you will be asked to upload digital supporting documents. Please find the requirements further down this page under Conditions for Accreditation.

A press card cannot replace the proof of your qualifications which we are requesting here.

Multiple accreditations via various Berlinale accreditation offices or for different professional fields, such as for a photo and print journalist, are not possible.

Conditions for Accreditation / Your professional supporting document:

You are asked to have ready the following supporting documents for digital upload in the online accreditation process:

  • official confirmation letter (PDF) from the assigning editor confirming your assignment to cover the Berlinale. Information on the type, extent and publication time of the planned coverage as well as a media kit
  • proof of publication (max. 50 MB) in the form of two current clippings of film-related coverage in the assigning medium
  • for online media only: Information on the type of media (web newspaper, web portal or similar) as well as the publication frequency and visitor statistics (unique visitors and page views)

You are asked to have ready the following supporting documents for digital upload in the online accreditation process:

  • official confirmation letter (PDF) from the assigning editor confirming your assignment to cover the festival, stating the intention to air your reports, and giving information about the program (e. g. periodicity, time of broadcast, audience ratings); names and jobs of the crew members to be accredited
  • scan of last year’s coverage or proof of publication (max. 50 MB)

You are asked to have ready the following supporting documents for digital upload in the online accreditation process:

  • official confirmation letter (PDF) from the assigning editor or agency director confirming your assignment to cover the festival
  • proofs of publication (max. 50 MB)
  • scan of press card

You are asked to have ready the following supporting documents for digital upload in the online accreditation process:

  • an official letter of confirmation (PDF) from your agency director, the film production company or film distributor with information about the films you will be representing at the Berlinale

Access authorisations:

  • Your Accreditation as a journalist is valid for the whole festival
  • You will receive further information about access to the film screenings when you pick up your Press Badge

  • the Accreditation as technician gives no access to the screenings
  • TV and radio technicians will be given special filming permits and work permits for the opening and closing ceremonies and for the special events. For this purpose, please make sure to contact the Press Office in due time:
  • You will receive further information about access authorisations when you pick up your badge

  • accreditation allows access to photo calls, presentation of directors and actors after the screenings on stage and access to the marked area at the Red Carpet in front of the Berlinale Palast
  • photographers positions will be assigned by the press office
  • photographers must request a camera position by January 15
  • positions are not guaranteed
  • you will receive further information about access authorisations when you pick up your badge
  • the accreditation as photographer gives no access to the screenings
  • Photographers will be given special work permits for the opening and closing ceremonies and for the special events. For this purpose, please make sure to contact the Press Office in due time:

Recordings (TV, film, digital, video, sound and photography):

  • Accredited photographers are permitted to take photographs
  • Accredited TV press are permitted to make TV, film, digital and video recordings

TV, film, digital, video and sound recordings and photography in which a part of a film screening is recorded violate copyright law and are illegal. Breaches of this rule will be prosecuted.

  • access is limited for certain special events and official celebrations and is granted only by the press department
  • for the opening and closing gala auditorium events, access is limited to photographers and radio journalists. TV press have no access. TV, film, digital and video recordings are generally not permitted during the opening and closing gala events. Access to pool material may be requested through the press department

A breach of these rules and guidelines can lead to confiscation of accreditation and immediate exclusion from the event.

  • Photographs may only be taken by authorised agency photographers
  • TV, film, digital and video recordings may only be made by accredited TV press

Further Information:

Reviews of films that celebrate their world premieres at the Berlinale may only be published after the official gala premiere. Journalists with Berlinale accreditation declare their acceptance of this "embargo".
