Claudia Cardinale to be Awarded a Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement

Claudia Cardinale, one of the most successful and well-known European Actresses, will be awarded a Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement on Friday 15 February 2002. The Golden Bear will be presented to her prior to the screening of Federico Fellini's 8 1/2 in Cinema International at 8:00pm. 8 1/2 is screening this year as part of Retrospektive "European 60s".
 
After her film debut at the age of 17, the Tunisian born actress, Claudia Cardinale celebrated national and international success. Since then she has acted in over 100 films and worked with some of the world's most renowned directors, including: Sergio Leone (Once Upon A Time In The West, 1968), the above mentioned Federico Fellini and Werner Herzog (Fitzcarraldo, 1982). She has acted alongside actors such Burt Lancaster, Alain Delon, Marcello Mastroiani, Lee Marvin, Anthony Quinn, Helmut Berger and Klaus Kinski. Unforgettable is her performance with Peter Sellers in the Hollywood production, The Pink Panther, 1964.
 
Some of her most successful films are those directed by Luchino Visconti: Rocco and his Brothers (1960), The Leopard (1963) and Conversation Piece (1975) Claudia Cardinale was a guest of the Festival in 1985 with Un été à La Goulette.
